Welcome to Newton School’s Foundation’s (NSF) 3rd annual Newton Inspires, which will take place at Newton North (not at South where it was last year) on Tuesday, November 19th.  There are three sessions with a wide variety of speakers, all with ties to Newton.  NSF is a public charity dedicated to supporting Newton Public Schools.

  • Please make sure to select THREE speakers (one from each session).

  • While Newton Inspires is free to all NEWTON residents, generous donations are always appreciated.  They help defray our costs and support our mission.  You can make a donation by clicking here!

  • There is a fee of $10 for Non-Newton residents. Click here to pay.

We expect this year’s event to fill quickly so don’t delay in selecting your courses and telling your friends!  As always, parking is tight so leave plenty of time to park, pick up your name tag with room assignments and get to your seat in time for the first session.  Plan on arriving by 6:45pm to be safe! See you all on Tuesday, November 19th.

Co-Writing with Catie
Limited Capacity seats available

I will play a few  songs that were co-written, tell the story of how they were created.  Then I'll co-write a song on the spot with the audience as co-writers!

My new recording (Flying Dream,  due out Jan 2014) includes 8 co-written songs.  Co-writing opens up infinite possibilities, as you combine your own ideas with those of your co-writer.  In Nashville, writers team up with a different co-writer nearly every day, often completing 80- 100 songs a year.  I have found that the fact of having songwriting appointments or dates built in to my schedule is half the battle in getting songs written.  Let's write a song together!

What's so Funny about Newton?
Limited Capacity seats available

The day I moved to Newton, hurricane Hugo hit. There was looting on the block, in fact, my wife got this beautiful sterling tea service. If someone breaks into your home in Newton, there is a pretty good chance their gonna' install a deck. My first Newton therapist, used to open up with, “Now what’s the matter?” Anytime I used to talk about my childhood he used to say, “Please don’t open that can of worms.”

The Birth and Death of Stars
Limited Capacity seats available

The fascinating story of the life cycle of stars and the very interesting remnants they leave behind: white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes.

One of the most outstanding problems in modern astrophysics is understanding how stars (including our Sun) are born, how they evolve in their early stages and how planets form around them.   However, stars don’t shine forever.  They have a finite lifetime.  Eventually their fuel is consumed and many end in a violent death.  The ashes left over from this life-and-death cycle are very fascinating objects: white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes.

Conscious Capitalism
Limited Capacity seats available

Conscious Capitalism is a movement that is both changing the narrative about business, and the way it's engaged.  It's a better way to do business.

Capitalism is the most powerful system for social cooperation and human progress we've conceived, and it's one of the most compelling ideas we've ever had.  However we can aspire to even more.  Conscious Capitalism is a way of doing business that reflects the interdependencies of all stakeholders, not just the shareholders.  It is business as a "story of us", not a "story of me."  By building truly human organizations we will create the opportunity for people to lead lives infused with passion, purpose and creativity, and in the process work to elevate humanity.
